Stealth Sites in Indonesia - The Ramboll City Lights

Proliferation of Towers - The need for advanced telecommunication services in urban areas and sharp competition amongst service providers, has transformed some Indonesian cities into tower jungles.
To combat this, the Indonesian government has issued certain regulations of which one concerns tower sharing. After this more solutions are now emerging as alternatives to the traditional telecommunication tower in urban areas. One of these solutions is the camouflage tower, as used in some of the more developed countries.

Realizing that telecommunication towers might be visually disturbing, several tower companies offer solutions in the form of camouflage towers such as trees, minarets, church towers and various other forms that can blend in harmoniously with the surrounding environment.

Moreover, some sites are hidden behind billboards, park lamps, on street lamp poles. Some sectored antennas are so well concealed that it’s hard to image that it is an antenna. This is the concept of “Stealth Site”, a covert site, proven to be very popular in many other parts of the world. The “Stealth Site” is expected to become popular in Indonesia in the coming years being an environmentally friendly solution especially in urban areas. Telecommunication tower suppliers and designers present the concept as a commitment to meet the visual, environmental and safety requirements of the community and greatly improving on traditional tower designs in this respect.
Stealth Sites in Indonesia
Over several years, PT. Ramboll Telecom Indonesia (PTRTI) has seen an increasing demand for towers or poles of this type.

As the first camouflage tower project, PTRTI is supplying city lights camouflage for PT. Solusi Tunas Pratama (STP). The project started with 30 units that will be located along the main road of Sudirman to Thamrin, the main business district of Jakarta. Another 25 are under production.

In addition, several more projects are expected, one of which is with Nokia Siemens Network (NSN) for supply of several other tower types such as water tank, minaret, flag pole, and lift house. We feel very positive about the demand for these very promising tower designs, which meet the increasing demands for safety, high aesthetics and environmental friendliness.
