Ramboll has won the competition of the design of new towers for an overhead transmission line in Denmark
In competition with 5 other consultant companies, Ramboll Telecom has won a contract for the design of new transmission line towers including their foundations.
The towers will be used in a new 400kV power transmission line in Denmark that shall replace an existing line and increase the capacity of the line to the double. The existing transmission line is from 1962 and needs to be replaced primarily in order to also transport energy from new wind mill farms. The line is from Kassø to Tjele and has a length of approx. 180 km with a total of 600 towers.
Overhead transmission lines have a great impact on the landscape, and stringent requirements were laid down by the client, Energinet.dk to minimize the visual impact, and to use towers of special design. The layout of the new transmission line towers is designed by Bystrup Architects, and has a quite different appearance to the traditional angle bar towers in the existing line.
