The airborne transmission lines provide data connectivity between network elements. Airborne transmission lines may be superior to ground based transmission lines in cases where provision of ground based transmission is either too expensive or too timeconsuming.
Skills and Experience
Ramboll may assist all the way from requirements specification, link budget designs, availability calculations, vendor selections for microwave equipment to the design and provision of mast, towers and structures.
Ramboll has a wide range of experience within airborne transmission lines and have designed structures for airborne transmission lines in many countries - from a 2000 km radio chain in Greenland to transmission lines in more than 10 European countries.
Through more than half a century Ramboll has designed structures to carry microwave antennas and consequently designed the structures to be able to fulfil the special requirement for these structures.
The microwave antennas require small rotations in order not to loose the signal - even during severe climatic conditions.
The demands for the availability of the signal initiate the rotation requirement and to strict criteria lead very expensive structures. Consequently the criteria should be chosen in close connection with the wind climate on site. Ramboll have developed different tools to optimise the structures and the availability of the signal.
