Besides her client projects, Natalia has also participated in an international project competition for young engineers and architects together with two colleagues from Denmark and the UK.
“Taking part in the competition was a lot of fun, but also hard work. We learned a lot from working together in order to come up with the best possible solution”, Natalia says.
International Design Competition
Three teams from Ramboll took part in the Young Structural Engineers’ International Design Competition in 2008. Their task was to produce a legacy use for an Olympic stadium and the site on which it is build. This involved design and planning of the stadium as well as surroundings. Part of the assignment was then to find alternative use for the building once the Olympic Games had been held.
“In my team we placed the stadium in Sochi, which is the Russian city that will host the Olympic Games in 2014. The stadium building was placed very close to the coast of the Black Sea”, Natalia explains.
Natalia and her team members met in Copenhagen, Moscow and London before the end of the competition in July 2008. While her team was not awarded with a prize this time, one of the other Ramboll teams received an award for "Innovative interpretation".
A place to foster ideas and be creative
Natalia is usually involved in projects where her task is to design a building from scratch. At the moment she is the lead architect on a large factory that is to be build just outside Moscow. The factory will consist of production and office facilities to suit the app. 135 people that are going to work there. Natalia has done all drawings from initial sketches to 3D images.
“That is one of the best aspects of my job here at Ramboll. I have a lot of ideas and I like to put them on paper, do the sketches and drawings. And to see the final result when the building is completed is just amazing”, Natalia explains.
Architectural inspiration
Natalia finds a lot of her ideas and inspiration in the work of modern architects: “Each project is individual. I find that the best way to keep my solutions creative and innovative is to study the latest tendencies within architecture. I find a lot of inspiration from architects like Norman Foster, Santiago Calatrava Valls and Jean Nouvel”.
