In Denmark, Falck and Ramboll have established a 24-hour environmental response centre together. Here, we provide consultancy and damage control services that significantly reduce the environmental impact of acute pollution incidents, which might otherwise pose a threat to people and environment. In Finland and Norway we are looking to establish corresponding centres in cooperation with emergency services with national approval for leading pollution control.
The Environmental Emergency Service
Local authorities subscribed to the centre’s services will be able to report an emergency to Falck’s Dispatch Center, who will then immediately contact the Ramboll engineer on call. The Environmental Emergency Service covers:
- Immediate response services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year
- Consultancy by phone within ten minutes of a reported emergency
- Acute expert assistance on site within two hours aimed at reducing consequences of the accident and costs of remedial actions
- Consultancy to the local Incident Commander
- In some cases backtracking to localise the source of pollution – for example in case of water pollution
- Accurate and impartial documentation of the cause and extent of the accident for use in any subsequent legal proceedings
- Contacting insurance companies to get coverage of any expenses resulting from the accident.
Environmental Assistance
The response team is ready to respond to all kinds of acute environmental accidents. Acute accidents commonly comprise pollution of streams and lakes as well as ground water, soil and air. Our assistance will typically involve quick, on-the-spot decisions with regard to acute remediation, involving the handling and removal of the pollutant through clean-up crews and contractors. The final result is documented by field and laboratory analyses and reported to the municipality.
